Singapore, 27 October 2020 (Tuesday) – In the famous words of Mark Twain, “Comparison is the death of joy.” Indeed, a new study found that people with higher subjective socioeconomic status — their perception of their income and educational standing compared to others — reported significantly higher levels of happiness. This relationship was also significantly larger than the connection between people’s actual income or educational attainment, and happiness.
Singapore, 26 October 2020 (Monday) – Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB) has been ranked 22nd in the Financial Times’ (FT) 2020 global ranking of Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programmes. It holds the 14th spot among Asia universities and ranked 8th among Asia business schools.
- One-year-Ahead headline inflation expectations significantly dropped to 1.9% in September 2020, from 3.0% in June 2020, much lower compared to the third quarter average of 3.3 % from 2012 till 2019. The inflation expectations for headline inflation is the lowest since the inception of the Singapore Index of Inflation Expectations Survey in 2011.
- The significant drop in inflation expectations across the board is emblematic of some degree of anchoring of inflation expectations in line with current published data.

SINGAPORE, 18 September 2020 (Friday) – The Singapore Management University (SMU) undertook the third wave of the Public Cleanliness Satisfaction Survey (PCSS). 1,716 responses were collected from Singapore residents before the start of the Circuit Breaker. The 2019 wave of the survey was led by Professor Paulin Straughan, Professor of Sociology (Practice) And Dean of Students at SMU, and Dr Mathew Mathews, Head, Social Lab and Senior Research Fellow at the Institute of Policy Studies, where they looked at the public’s perception of public cleanliness and hygiene in Singapore.
Singapore, 16 September 2020 ( Wednesday) - Food insecurity is defined as a state when a household does not have, or is not confident of having, economic and physical access to sufficient, acceptable food for a healthy life. The Singapore Management University (SMU)’s Lien Centre for Social Innovation (LCSI) recently completed the first nationally representative study on food insecurity in Singapore.
