Singapore, 19 January 2021 – The Singapore Management University’s School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS) has launched a new Digital Transformation track for 2021 under its Master of IT in Business (MITB) programme.

SINGAPORE, 15 January 2021 (Friday) – The Singapore Management University (SMU) today announced that its School of Information Systems (SIS) has been renamed School of Computing and Information Systems (SCIS) to project the expanded aspirations and role of the School beyond Information Systems to include computing which encompasses Computer Science, Computer Engineering and Software Engineering.

Singapore, 30 December 2020 (Wednesday) – Past and present staff of Vitol Asia have come together to make an endowed gift of $14 million to set up the Ian R. Taylor Memorial Fund (IRT-MF) at the Singapore Management University (SMU) in honour and memory of the late Mr Ian Roper Taylor  (7 February 1956 – 8 June 2020).  Mr Taylor was the former chief executive and chairman of the Vitol Group who transformed the small Dutch fuel merchant into the global commodities powerhouse that it is today.

SINGAPORE, 22 December 2020 (Tuesday) – Singapore is ranked second[1] among developed nations with the highest proportion of diabetics in its population. An average of four[2] diabetic-related foot amputations are performed every day and 1,500[3] of such amputations are carried out annually. 25%[4] of diabetic patients will develop foot ulcers in their lifetime, and 50% of those patients suffer from peripheral arterial disease.

Singapore, 21 December 2020 (Monday) – Older adults refer to those aged 55 to 75, a demographic in Singapore that is expanding exponentially. The Singapore Management University (SMU)’s Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) published a series of research briefs which examine the importance of social integration for well-being among older adults across several contexts, including during the COVID-19 pandemic, in terms of their political participation, and finally in terms of their social networks.

Singapore, 17 December 2020 (Thursday) – Singapore Management University (SMU) Pro Bono Centre has lauded the dedication and contribution of several individuals for their pro bono efforts. 

SMU Juris Doctor graduate Ms Shim Eunkyung and SMU LLB graduate Ms Ong Jia Xin Abigail, both from the Class of 2020, were recognised for having contributed the most number of approved pro bono hours in the year.  Respectively, they contributed 424.5 hours and 138.8 hours in approved pro bono work, to be precise.

•             More than 6,700 across Singapore participated in this survey, including primary caregivers for persons with mental health issues (including dementia), and members of the public.

Singapore, 2 December 2020 (Wednesday) – The Institute of Service Excellence (ISE) (卓越服务研究院)at Singapore Management University (SMU) today released the 2020 third quarter (Q3) Customer Satisfaction Index of Singapore (CSISG) results for the Food & Beverage and Tourism sectors.

SINGAPORE, 5 November 2020 – The Business Innovations Generator (BIG) Incubation Programme offered by the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) at the Singapore Management University (SMU) has unveiled 27 new startups accepted into its third and final cohort for 2020. (More information about the startups can be found in Annex A)

The latest intake is BIG’s largest since its inception in 2009, surpassing the 19 startups it had accepted for incubation in May.

Singapore, 2 November 2020 (Monday) – Given the relatively nascent philanthropic ecosystem in Asia, this research found both opportunities and challenges in the philanthropic sector. The challenges related to the philanthropic sector should be delved into and mitigated before the opportunities in the sector can be effectively leveraged .
