A new SMU survey, “Engage.Me.,” revealed that while Singaporeans desire an inclusive society, employment for persons with disabilities (PWDs) remains challenging. The survey was created and led by SMU Principal Lecturer of Statistics Rosie Ching, and supported by the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped and the Singapore Association for the Deaf. In an interview, Ms Ching noted that while there was goodwill toward employing people with disabilities, such goodwill did not necessarily lead to actual hiring, as statistics suggested opportunities remained only partially accessible.
