At SMU’s inaugural Alumni Awards, 22 outstanding alumni were honoured for their achievements across diverse fields. Among the distinguished individuals honoured was Yip Pin Xiu, Singapore's Paralympic swimmer who has won seven gold medals. She emphasised her dedication to balancing family life and rigorous training, with aspirations to continue achieving excellence in the pool and championing a more inclusive society. National sprinter Shanti Pereira, Singapore’s “Sprint Queen,” was also recognised for her trailblazing performances, including her historic 200m gold at the 2022 Asian Games – the nation’s first athletics gold in nearly 50 years. Entrepreneur Lin Fengru, Founder and CEO of biotechnology firm TurtleTree, was honoured for pioneering sustainable innovation through cell-based milk and lactoferrin production. The awards, presented by President Tharman Shanmugaratnam and SMU President Professor Lily Kong, celebrate alumni who have made exceptional contributions in professional excellence, innovation, and community service.
