At the annual MTI Economic Dialogue held at SMU on 25 August 2025, Deputy Prime Minister Gan Kim Yong highlighted the need for Singapore to prepare for tariff-driven uncertainties and structural shifts in the global economy that may impact trade and investment. He later joined a dialogue moderated by SMU Professor of Economics Hoon Hian Teck, and took questions from junior college and university students in the audience. Launched in 2008, the Dialogue is jointly organised by the Ministry of Trade and Industry and local universities to provide students with insights into key economic challenges facing Singapore and the role of economics in policymaking.
