Vingroup and SMU sign MOU to collaborate on research, capacity building and human resource development

Vietnam, 18 October, 2018 - Vingroup and Singapore Management University (SMU) have today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to collaborate on research and development, capacity building, as well as executive and professional development programmes.

Under the MOU, both parties will explore research on business models, customer service quality, competitive advantage, sustainability development, and technology application in business.

Both parties will also cooperate in developing executive training programmes for Vingroup’s senior management staff, as well as professional development programmes for Vingroup’s executives and senior staff in its Management Information Systems and Information Technology departments.

In addition, SMU and VinUni project (a Vingroup’s organisation) will conduct student and faculty exchange programmes for research and academic purposes when the latter is formally established.

SMU is internationally recognised for its world-class research and distinguished teaching. SMU’s education is known for its highly interactive, collaborative and project-based approach to learning. The University emphasises rigorous, high-impact, multi- and interdisciplinary research that addresses Asian issues of global relevance. SMU’s Master of Science in Wealth Management is ranked first in Asia and third in the world by Financial Times’ 2018 Masters in Finance post-experience ranking. SMU’s Master of IT in Business is ranked 1st in Asia and 11th worldwide out of 75 Masters in Business Analytics programmes from 17 countries around the globe in the QS Masters in Business Analytics Rankings 2019.

Speaking at the MOU signing ceremony, SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer said, “SMU’s Executive Development team has in the past two years been working closely with Vingroup’s senior management team to strategise, develop and implement customised and experiential programmes to help develop human capital for Vingroup. The leadership programme put together for VinMec's management team is a concrete outcome of this working relationship. To date, about 100 Vingroup staff have completed the leadership programme as part of Vingroup’s leadership development initiative.”

Also speaking at the signing ceremony, Mr Nguyen Viet Quang, Vice Chairman and CEO of Vingroup said: "The objectives of this collaboration with SMU are not only to train skilled professionals, but also to develop future leaders who has the mindset, vision and courage of a leader. We hope that with our experience and reputation, Singapore Management University will work with us to promote cooperation in the fields of training, research and development. In particular, this partnership will promote the development of a new generation of entrepreneurs with the will and aspirations to lead enterprises in a competitive international arena.”
