In a special commentary, SMU President Professor De Meyer shared his love for reading, which he said makes him reflect on himself and on the situations around him. He added that his choice of books ranges from a good detective novel to biographies to historical essays related to his job. Some books he enjoyed reading recently include: Yuval Noah Harari's Sapiens, A Brief History Of Mankind, Pedro Dominos' The Master Algorithm, and his colleague, SMU Provost Professor Lily Kong's and Orlando Woods' Religion And Space. On what makes a good book, Prof De Meyer noted that it must have character; be opinionated and try to convince him; build up a climax and entice him to read till the last paragraph; and that it should make him feel unhappy that he has turned the last page.
