SMU, DHL to launch research laboratory

SMU and global logistics giant DHL have collaborated for research purposes. The S$2-million initiative focuses on developing ways to make all aspects of the global supply chain more environmentally-friendly and sustainable. A laboratory, known as the Green Transformation Lab, will focus on education, research and best practice development solutions to help organizations transform their businesses with sustainable practices. The lab is housed at the SMU School of Information Systems and will be run by SMU students and faculty, along with DHL employees. It will have two full-time directors – SMU Instructor Tan Kar Way will serve as academic director and Stephan Schablinski from DHL will serve as director. The lab already has three projects in the pipeline, including research on new ways in which companies can monitor energy consumption more accurately.
