Illegal strike a wake-up call for employers to reflect upon themselves: Tan Chuan-Jin

Commenting on the SMRT strike incident, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that employers should be aware that foreigners working in Singapore are also part of the workforce. The incident was a wake-up call to all the stakeholders, and it highlighted the need to review tripartism . He added that the Government is sending messages that illegal strikes cannot be tolerated, and that SMRT must view the unhappiness of its drivers seriously. This incident has also reflected systemic issues within SMRT, which eventually resulted in the strike.
