Singapore, 17 December 2020 (Thursday) – Singapore Management University (SMU) Pro Bono Centre has lauded the dedication and contribution of several individuals for their pro bono efforts. 

SMU Juris Doctor graduate Ms Shim Eunkyung and SMU LLB graduate Ms Ong Jia Xin Abigail, both from the Class of 2020, were recognised for having contributed the most number of approved pro bono hours in the year.  Respectively, they contributed 424.5 hours and 138.8 hours in approved pro bono work, to be precise.

•             More than 6,700 across Singapore participated in this survey, including primary caregivers for persons with mental health issues (including dementia), and members of the public.

•             Caregivers of persons with mental health issues including dementia: 75% (or 3 in 4) expressed a need for temporary separation from the person they care for. More than 72% also said caring for the person with mental health issues makes them tired and exhausted.

Singapore, 2 December 2020 (Wednesday) – The Institute of Service Excellence (ISE) (卓越服务研究院)at Singapore Management University (SMU) today released the 2020 third quarter (Q3) Customer Satisfaction Index of Singapore (CSISG) results for the Food & Beverage and Tourism sectors.

SINGAPORE, 5 November 2020 – The Business Innovations Generator (BIG) Incubation Programme offered by the Institute of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (IIE) at the Singapore Management University (SMU) has unveiled 27 new startups accepted into its third and final cohort for 2020. (More information about the startups can be found in Annex A)

The latest intake is BIG’s largest since its inception in 2009, surpassing the 19 startups it had accepted for incubation in May.

The challenges related to the philanthropic sector should be delved into and mitigated before the opportunities in the sector can be effectively leveraged .

Singapore, 27 October 2020 (Tuesday) – In the famous words of Mark Twain, “Comparison is the death of joy.” Indeed, a new study found that people with higher subjective socioeconomic status — their perception of their income and educational standing compared to others — reported significantly higher levels of happiness. This relationship was also significantly larger than the connection between people’s actual income or educational attainment, and happiness.  

Singapore, 26 October 2020 (Monday) – Singapore Management University’s (SMU) Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB) has been ranked 22nd in the Financial Times’ (FT) 2020 global ranking of Executive Master of Business Administration (EMBA) programmes. It holds the 14th spot among Asia universities and ranked 8th among Asia business schools. 

  • One-year-Ahead headline inflation expectations significantly dropped to 1.9% in September 2020, from 3.0% in June 2020, much lower compared to the third quarter average of 3.3 % from 2012 till 2019. The inflation expectations for headline inflation is the lowest since the inception of the Singapore Index of Inflation Expectations Survey in 2011.
  • The significant drop in inflation expectations across the board is emblematic of some degree of anchoring of inflation expectations in line with current published data.

Singapore, 7 October 2020 – Singapore Management University (SMU) has launched a certified programme on future-ready skills, called the Advanced Certificate in Future Workforce Architect programme. The curriculum has been developed in partnership with the Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) and accredited by the Institute for Human Resource Professionals (IHRP).

Singapore, 1 October 2020 (Thursday) – Singapore Management University (SMU) welcomed Mr Nadiem Makarim, Minister of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia, as the keynote speaker at its Industry Leaders Dialogue today.

Organised by SMU, the SMU International Advisory Council in Indonesia and the SMU Alumni Chapter in Indonesia, the theme of this year’s Dialogue was ‘The Future of Higher Education in a Post-Covid-19 Era’.
