On 29 September 2025, SMU’s Institute of Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SMU IIE) announced the launch of the Urban SustaInnovator (USI), an accelerator programme dedicated to scaling and anchoring breakthrough solutions in the urban solutions and sustainability (USS) space. Minister for National Development Chee Hong Tat witnessed its launch at the Opening Ceremony of the 12th Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition’s (LKYGBPC) Grand Finals Week, from 29 September to 2 October 2025.
Professor Lim Sun Sun, SMU's Vice President of Partnerships and Engagement and Chair of the USI Programme Management Council, said that the launch of the Urban SustaInnovator reflects SMU’s commitment to turning research and innovation into real-world impact, fostering collaboration, and driving sustainable solutions while strengthening Singapore’s workforce.
