
In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan noted that the President’s Address at the opening of the 15th Parliament outlined ambitious priorities for the next five years, reflecting Singapore’s need for change at a critical juncture while stressing the importance of doubling down on fundamentals. He observed that the economy was featured prominently as essential to securing the nation’s future and improving lives. Reiterating the “Forward Singapore” movement, Assoc Prof Tan noted that President Tharman Shanmugaratnam also reminded citizens that success should be measured by support for the vulnerable and enabling all Singaporeans to live with dignity.
