On 12 August 2025, SMU President Professor Lily Kong launched Universities Reinvented: Shaping Legacy and Impact for a New World, based on her 2024 IPS S R Nathan Lectures. Guest-of-honour Education Minister Desmond Lee urged universities to go beyond disciplinary teaching, fostering interdisciplinary learning, self-discovery, and resilience to tackle real-world challenges. Prof Kong urged Asian universities to define success on their own terms, show moral courage in leadership decisions, and challenge outdated models to stay true to their mission of creating knowledge, shaping character, and improving lives.
