
In a commentary, SMU Vice President (Partnerships and Engagement) and Lee Kong Chian Professor of Communication & Technology, Lim Sun Sun discussed how phone notifications had disrupted modern life by diminishing focus and creating constant distraction. She urged tech companies to adopt a well-being-focused approach through intelligent notification management and customisable focus modes. Additionally, she called on governments to establish ethical guidelines to address the issue. She concluded that technology could help resolve the problem – if redesigned with user well-being as the top priority.
