A joint study by the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants (ISCA), the Singapore Manufacturing Federation, Deloitte and SMU on the role of accountancy in the manufacturing sector found that only 37 per cent of the manufacturing firms it looked at have implemented sustainability initiatives, though the figure is expected to double in the coming years. Another 38 per cent of manufacturers are expected to implement sustainability initiatives of their own within the next one to three years. SMU Associate Professor of Accounting Holly Yang, who presented the report’s findings during the ISCA Conference at the Sands Expo and Convention Centre on Wednesday, pointed to the reduction of emissions as one area of concern.
