Commemorating its 20th anniversary, the Wee Kim Wee Centre (WKWC) unveiled the new Wee Kim Wee Room at SMU and formally launched the Wee Kim Wee Heritage Fund on Nov 4. The treasured belongings of former President Wee Kim Wee and Mrs Wee within the Wee Kim Wee Room have been lovingly entrusted to SMU by his family, allowing members of the public to remember our nation’s history, honour its pioneers and to enjoy reminiscing the past with the present in mind. The heritage fund created by SMU would go towards the upkeep of the Wee Kim Wee room, support educational programmes by the Wee Kim Wee Centre, and grant scholarships to SMU students, especially those with financial needs. The WKWC, housed in SMU’s College of Integrative Studies, aims to advance learning and dialogue about major cross-cultural issues. Mr Desmond Lee, Minister for National Development & Minister-in-charge of Social Services Integration, was Guest-of-Honour at the launch event held at SMU on Nov 4.
