In a commentary, SMU Assistant Professor of Economics Yuan Mei discussed how growing regionalisation may provide the spark to keep globalisation going and how Singapore can thrive in a world past peak trade, and with more regional blocs. He highlighted education as a sector that could boost Singapore’s service exports, and urged universities in Singapore to think about expanding internationally by opening up new campuses within the region, especially in China.
