SMU undergraduate and Paralympic swimmer Yip Pin Xiu has been training hard over the past year in preparation for the ASEAN Para Games. She said that it is already an unforgettable experience, as “it will show Singaporeans the human spirit of the Games, as well as the competitive side”, adding that this is a whole new level Singapore is taking towards para sports. Pin Xiu, who is Singapore’s sole Paralympic gold medallist and flagbearer during the opening ceremony, noted that the hosting the Para Games is an achievement for the whole country, and that she is very proud to be part of this. “This is something the country is doing and I am so proud to call myself a Singaporean,” she said.
