Chairman of the SMU Board of Trustees and Executive Chairman of Banyan Tree Holdings Limited Ho Kwon Ping and SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan shared their views on Singapore’s future after 50 years of independence. Mr Ho said that Singapore is highly likely to remain a sovereign nation in the next 50 years, but complacency might be a cause for Singapore’s demise. Associate Prof Tan also noted that although Singapore has no natural resources and “little inherent strategic depth”, “survival and prosperity will hinge on whether Singaporeans are determined to make Singapore succeed”.
