Singapore says farewell to its ‘father’, Lee Kuan Yew, and to a whole era

SMU Associate Professor of Law and former Nominated MP Eugene Tan commented on the sentiments of Singapore’s younger generations with regards to the nation’s politics. Although political change and leadership succession is bound to take place, he is of the view that “we are not going to see seismic changes in Singapore’s political landscape in the next few years.” Even if another party is in power, any significant policy change will not deviate from the fundamentals. “There are certain fundamentals that all Singapore leaders will be aligned with, such as multiracialism, meritocracy and incorruptibility. These fundamentals resonate with Singaporeans as well,” he said.
