SMU Associate Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said raising revenue through "sin" taxes will be seen by Singaporeans as a better alternative compared to similar increases in personal or corporate tax rates. He was commenting on the announcement on Friday during the Budget of steep increases in alcohol, gambling and tobacco taxes.
