Economy grew by 3.7 per cent in 2013; economists expect economy to do much better this year

SMU Associate Professor of Law and NMP Eugene Tan said that this year’s Budget and the new legislative programme that will be finalised in May are worth anticipating. The major issues for this year are the Pioneer Generation Package, MediShield Life and the Committee of Inquiry’s report on the Little India riot, he added.  Associate Prof Tan also said that 2014 will be an important platform for the ruling party to demonstrate how its policies will benefit the people, and it will be especially so if the next general election is held in 2015 or early 2016. In fact, 2014 is an important year for all the political parties, he said.
