Asia needs tailored wealth management education

The rising affluence of Asia at an astonishing pace has created more opportunities for wealth management professionals. At the same time, the high number of fund managers lacking expertise in investment in Asian markets or dealing with Asian investors have created a knowledge gap for business education providers to exploit. On how business schools offering wealth management courses could benefit from this trend, SMU Vice President for Business Development and External Relations, Associate Professor Annie Koh, observed that interest in wealth management courses has been on the rise, based on the increased number of people signing up for CFA and CAIA programmes. She added that while there is now a greater number of educational institutions offering postgraduate courses in Finance, acquiring formal qualifications is only the first step to joining the wealth management industry. What is more important would be on-the-job training for these new industry professionals.
