SMU Adjunct Professor and founder director of NPS International School Bala Shankar challenged some myths surrounding the global job slump. They included the notion that growth brought jobs; the job market was globalised; cataclysmic conditions created sudden structural cracks in the job market which took time to heal; unemployment rate was a true indicator of employment situation and education was a panacea for unemployment. Prof Shankar added that while the whole world waits with bated breath for sustainable relief from the unemployment problem, researchers engaged in finding new remedies will need new ideas.
