Lee Li Lian helps WP win another seat in Parliament

SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that the Punggol East by-election has helped the Workers’ Party expand its influence in the eastern and north-eastern parts of Singapore, especially in the East Coast GRC and Seng Kang West SMC, and possibly even the Pasir Ris-Punggol GRC. WP has also secured its position as the leader of the opposition, and it seems likely that Singapore will be moving towards a two-party system in the next General Election (GE). However, WP’s victory would split the opposition even further, and other opposition parties might team up to fight against WP. Therefore, for the next GE, three-cornered fights might occur in the constituencies that WP contests.
