‘A positive step’ for women

Commenting on the impending appointment of Mdm Halimah Yacob as Speaker of Parliament, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan said that the circumstances under which Michael Palmer resigned may have had some bearing on the choice of Mdm Halimah, instead of a “predictable” option. “Looking at the events of December, someone like her would inspire confidence in Parliament,” he said.
