On whether China should learn from Singapore’s success in governance, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan commented that while the People’s Action Party had an important role to play, it was not as influential as perceived by many. He said that Singapore’s successful should, to a larger extent, be credited to the efficient public service and added that the Singapore model cannot be applied directly to China due to the vast geographical and socio-political differences between the two countries. China should instead try to draw from the principles behind Singapore’s governance.
