On inter-ethnic relations in Indonesia, SMU Assistant Professor of Asian Studies Hoon Chang Yau stressed that the key was not to avoid inter-ethnic relations or resolve differences, but to live with the differences. According to Assistant Prof Hoon, cross-cultural hybridism, which combines several elements into one, was a necessary condition for living together in diversity.
