On MICA's announcement to correct misconceptions about Singapore by business leaders, investors, journalists, academics, non-government organisations and think tanks from China, India and the United States, SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan agreed that some Singaporean “stereotypes” still exist. As an example, he said that his exchange students “have the impression that you could get caned for chewing gum or not flushing the toilet” in Singapore. Assistant Prof Tan added that the “campaign is going after those thought leaders who have the multiplier effect and can help change the perception of Singapore.”
