According to a survey by the Institute of Policy Studies, about nine in 10 Singaporeans polled think the Republic is a better country than most other countries, which is an improvement from the 84 per cent of Singaporeans who said so in 2005. The survey revealed that national loyalty and pride have remained steady since the first survey was conducted in 1993. However, it also found that Singaporeans tend to express lower levels of national loyalty and national pride the higher their socio-economic status and the better educated they are. Associate Professor Kirpal Singh and Assistant Professor Eugene Tan share their views.
