ingapore Management University and Tata Consultancy Services Announce Creation of iCity Lab

Collaboration Agreement and TCS' S$6 million investment lays foundation for research and development of cloud-based IT solutions for intelligent cities in Asia and Worldwide

Singapore, 29 July 2011 (Friday) - The Singapore Management University celebrates the graduation of 1,819 graduands at the University's Commencement ceremony which began this morning at the Suntec Singapore International Convention and Exhibition Centre. This is SMU's eighth and largest batch of graduates. Among them is the pioneer batch of 106 law graduates who received their scrolls at the opening ceremony of Commencement 2011. The opening ceremony was graced by Guest-of-Honour, The Chief Justice Chan Sek Keong.

Singapore, 5 July 2011 – The Singapore Management University (SMU) and the National University of Singapore (NUS) today jointly announced that they will pay tribute to the late Madam Kwa Geok Choo, wife of former Prime Minister and Minister Mentor Lee Kuan Yew, in separate initiatives. SMU will name its new Law Library, a new Scholars Programme and a top Law Student Award after her. NUS will establish a professorship in property law, a distinguished visitors programme, bursaries and scholarships in honour of the late Madam Kwa, an alumna of the University.

SINGAPORE 30 June 2011 (Thursday) - For the first time, the prestigious Summer Institute in International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and Human Rights 2011 - designed and organized by the War Crimes Studies Center at the University of California at Berkeley and the East-West Center at the University of Hawaii - will be held at the Singapore Management University (SMU) School of Law.

SINGAPORE, 24 June 2011 (Monday) - After more than three decades of impunity, the senior leaders of the notorious Khmer Rouge regime are finally being brought to book at the United Nations-backed Extraordinary Chambers in the Courts of Cambodia (ECCC). They will be charged under both Cambodian and international law for serious crimes including crimes against humanity, genocide and grave breaches of the Geneva Conventions.

There has not been a war crimes trial of this magnitude held in Asia in recent memory.
