Singapore, 25 October 2011 – NOL Group today awarded its first two $12,000 university scholarships in remembrance of the late shipping industry visionary Mr. Lua Cheng Eng. Grants went to Singapore Management University (SMU) students Lim Wei Hong and Daniel Lee Boon Onn from the NOL-Lua Cheng Eng Memorial Scholarship.

Mr. Lua, who passed away in November 2010 at the age of 72, was CEO of Singapore-based NOL Group for 22 years beginning in 1977. The shipping and logistics company endowed the $400,000 scholarship programme in his name at SMU in February 2011.

Singapore , October 10, 2011 – The Securities Investors Association Singapore ( SIAS ) has entered into a tripartite relationship with Institute of Internal Auditors Singapore ( IIAS ) and Singapore Management University (SMU), represented by its Sim Kee Boon Institute for Financial Economics ( SKBI ) to mark a three-year collaboration to establish the Internal Audit Excellence Award (IAEA), as part of SIAS Annual Investors' Choice Awards.

Singapore, 26 September 2011 (Monday) – The Singapore Management University's (SMU) School of Information Systems (SIS) will sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) on Tuesday, 27 September 2011 to develop a new undergraduate course on information security management and collaborate on information security research and development projects.

In a recent IBM survey of some 3,000 CIOs, Cloud Computing and Business Analytics were identified as the top two technology priorities for mid and top-tier companies across all major industries in the near and mid-term. As one of the most networked countries in the world, Singapore is fast emerging as a hub in the Asia Pacific for these two functions.

Singapore, 7 September 2011 – The SMU Arts Festival returns in 2011 with a fresh format and a brand new name “U+Arts”. The Festival has grown in scale and matured in depth, through a unique model led by SMU students in close collaboration with the university's Office of Student Life.

SMU welcomes 12th batch of students for Academic Year 2011

Singapore, (Friday) 12 August 2011 – Singapore Management University (SMU) welcomes its 12th batch of freshmen at its Convocation Ceremony today. The 1,770 students will pursue existing undergraduate degree programmes in business management, accountancy, economics, social sciences, information systems management and law.
