A group of Singapore Management University (SMU) students got a rare behind-the-scenes glimpse into the operations of Indorama Ventures, a global sustainable chemical company, during a recent Open House at its Bangkok headquarters.
The visit was part of SMU’s ASEAN Internship Programme (AIP) under the Global Exposure initiative and reflects the University's continued commitment to cultivating real-world learning experiences through strong industry partnerships.
Hosted by Indorama Ventures, the Open House gave nearly 30 SMU interns exclusive access to senior executives and insight into the company’s business strategy, sustainability roadmap, and talent development efforts. Students explored the Indorama Ventures 360 Gallery, an interactive showcase of the company’s evolution, and also visited a production and recycling facility in Nakhon Pathom, gaining exposure to large-scale PET manufacturing and circular economy practices.
“The visit helped me connect what I’ve studied to how sustainability plays out at scale,” said Quek Lay Teng, Year 2, Bachelor of Integrative Studies, an SMU undergraduate interning in Thailand. “It’s incredibly motivating to see how innovation can drive real impact.”
“Seeing a global company champion sustainability from the ground up gave me new perspective on the kind of career I want to pursue,” shared Anafiya, Year 2, Bachelor of Science (Economics), another participant in the AIP programme.
The collaboration between SMU and Indorama Ventures is anchored by shared goals: developing young leaders with a global mindset and shaping purpose-driven careers. Indorama Ventures is a longstanding partner in SMU’s International Advisory Council and AIP programme.
“Programmes like AIP are central to how SMU prepares our students for the future of work,” said Corrine Ong, Director, Career and Employability Services at the Dato’ Kho Hui Meng Career Centre at SMU. “This visit demonstrates the value of immersive industry engagement in broadening our students’ horizons and connecting classroom learning to global challenges.”
Indorama Ventures’ involvement underscores its commitment to empowering young talent and promoting sustainable innovation – values that strongly align with SMU’s educational mission and international outlook.
