Danny Yeo (BBM, Class of 2018), 28 years old, has won Singapore's first Asian Games medal at the 18th Asian Games in Jakarta-Palembang.

Swimming in the Men's 4x200m Freestyle Relay together with teammates Joseph Schooling, Quah Zheng Wen, and Jonathan Tan, the quartet posted a national record time of 7:14.15 secs to take home the bronze medal behind Japan and China.

SMU President Professor Arnoud De Meyer conveyed his heartiest congratulations to Danny last night on behalf of the university when news of the team's success broke soon after the swim.

Via a text message, Danny thanked SMU for the school’s continual support in his pursuits. “SMU has played a big part in my journey.” Danny was a recipient of the SMU Athlete Development Award from 2013-2015 for three years in a row. The award recognises the achievements of top student-athletes in SMU, and provides them with financial support in their continued pursuit of sporting excellence while studying in SMU.

While studying at SMU, Danny had also participated in the 2013 SEA Games and won two golds. In addition he won one bronze at the 2014 Asian games, two golds at the 2015 SEA Games and two golds, one bronze at the 2017 SEA Games.

On what motivates him in life, he said, “To push your limits and being the best version of myself is what motivates me to get out of bed every morning, you'll be surprised what you can do if you put your mind to it.”

Danny is slated to swim in 5 events including the 200m Freestyle and the 4x200m Freestyle Relay that are both completed. He is down for the 100m Freestyle and 4x100m Freestyle Relay, as well as the 4x100m Medley Relay. Do catch Danny in action and give him your support!
