JAKARTA — Demonstrating Singapore Management University’s (SMU) growing institutional footprint and thought leadership in executive education across Southeast Asia, SMU recently partnered with Indonesia’s Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) to deliver an exclusive Masterclass tailored for senior healthcare leaders.
Held on 4 August 2026 at the Ministry’s headquarters in Jakarta, the landmark engagement drew approximately 100 participants who joined both offline and online. Indonesia’s Director General of Advanced Health, Mr. Azhar Jaya gave the opening remarks, while the keynote address was delivered by Indonesia’s Minister of Health, Mr. Budi Gunadi Sadikin. The session was convened by senior Ministry officials alongside 60 hospital directors.
Facilitated by SMU Indonesia to deepen high-level institutional ties with key government stakeholders, the masterclass—entitled "Becoming the Hospital of Choice: Leading for Trust, Value, and Sustainable Growth"—was conducted by Dr. Flocy Joseph (Head of Commercial, SMU Executive Development) and Patrick Lau (Vice President, Professional & Continuing Education, SMU Executive Development).
Together, they delivered a curriculum focused on cultivating customer-centric hospital experiences, leading with strategic purpose, and driving sustainable growth through operational excellence.

In his keynote address, Mr. Budi Gunadi Sadikin, Minister of Health, Republic of Indonesia, delivered the keynote speech, in which he laid out a bold vision for the future of the nation's public hospitals. He challenged healthcare leaders to build hospitals that are not only the provider of choice for Indonesians but also trusted destinations for international patients. Beyond delivering quality care, he emphasized the need for hospitals to become leading centers for medical education and research, while fostering a culture of mentorship where knowledge and expertise are continuously shared to strengthen Indonesia's healthcare capabilities for generations to come.
