Industry Demonstration Session with IPI Singapore
On 4 August 2015, SMU’s Living Analytics Research Centre (LARC) partnered with the Intellectual Property Intermediary (IPI) Singapore to organise a demonstration session that showcased LARC and LiveLab’s cutting-edge technologies to industry players in Singapore. The session saw an attendance of 23 participants from IPI, SPRING Singapore, start-up ventures (e.g., Tweetsense Pte Ltd and Thought Vector Pte Ltd), as well as the retail industry (e.g., BHG and Charles & Keith).
IPI, established by Singapore’s Ministry of Trade and Industry (MTI), focuses on industry needs and translating their innovation objectives into specific technology requirements to enable enterprises to develop new processes, products and services. With their engagements in the industry, IPI has established the channel to market; from dedicated one-to-one intermediary to crowd engagement – virtual or physical marketplace. Both IPI and LARC decided to use the demonstration session to find out more about the software and systems developed by LARC and LiveLabs so as to commercialise them.
The demonstration session commenced with a welcome address and introduction by Professor Steven Miller, Vice Provost (Research) and Dean of SMU School of Information Systems. SMU’s researchers proceeded to showcase LARC’s capabilities in social media analytics and theme park crowd management, as well as LiveLab’s innovation in context-aware mobile applications and services. The second half of the session continued with a question-and-answer session for participants to mingle with the researchers to gain better understanding about the systems and applications featured during the session.
The session concluded on a highly positive note. Several companies recognised the relevance of the showcased systems to their business needs and were in the midst of discussion with the faculty to assess the feasibility of adoption.
