SBF: Some SMEs cut down on overseas operations due to difficulties in finding employees and high turnover

In a post-Budget panel on challenges faced by small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and attended by members of the Institute of Singapore Chartered Accountants, SMU Professor of Accounting Sum Yee Loong said that companies who intend to undergo mergers or acquisitions must consider whether such a move is feasible or makes commercial sense. He added that the Government’s introduction of the Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A) scheme in Budget 2010, which raised the M&A allowance from five to 25 per cent, has slightly lowered the risks of such mergers or acquisitions.
