Stock market gains this year to be limited while local property prices will soon peak: Wealth management experts

SMU Assistant Professor of Finance Jerry Cao spoke about the crises and opportunities for the Chinese economy this year at the Chinese Forum for Business Outlook in 2014 organised by the Singapore Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry. He is of the opinion that China will face familiar issues this year like the real estate bubble, financial risks, excess capacity and insufficient consumption. However, he said, China's economy is undergoing changes and reforms, which will bring about new investment opportunities. He said that with the rise of urban communities, there will be a variety of investment opportunities in areas like the infrastructure for subways and high-speed rail. Population growth and improvements in living standards will raise demand for health care, services, education, and leisure activities. Demand will also grow for warehousing and logistics, and e-commerce. He believes that China's future investment opportunities lie in warehousing and logistics, high-end medical services, leisure, high-end manufacturing and green industries.
