Four political issues in the spotlight

SMU Assistant Professor of Law Eugene Tan hoped that Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong would decide to call a by-election within the year so as to allow every resident a formal vote, especially in an SMC like Punggol East and since the next election would only be due in the next three to four years. He was happy to note that several opposition parties have expressed an interest to contest, saying that this is not only a chance for the electorate to get to know the parties better, but also an opportunity for the parties to gauge their strength and following.
