Ahead of the Prime Minister's most important political speech of the year, The Straits Times spoke to seven Singaporeans about their hopes and their sources of confidence. SMU Assistant Professor of Law Mahdev Mohan said that if the message given is one which people have heard before, or seems to be overly nationalistic, people will become sceptical. His view is that the Government needs to take a step back and give Singaporeans more of a chance to be themselves.
