SMU 4 th year accountancy student Benjamin Loh does not believe in taking on unpaid internships. He felt that while companies expend large resources on the training of interns, interns are likewise investing time and energy to perform for their companies. ?Internship stipends are not meant to be in-principle remuneration, but allowances to relieve students' financial burdens. If they suffer burnout from taking on additional part-time work to make ends meet, it could make both parties lose out and potentially sour relationships,? he added.
