Singapore, 4 May 2020 (Monday) – The Singapore Management University (SMU) today announced the establishment of a new SMU Resilience Fund to help students who are facing financial hardship because of the COVID-19 pandemic.  The $2.5 million Fund comprises three coordinated components - SMU CARES (comprising funds from the University’s own resources), SMU GIVES (made up of contributions from the SMU Community), and SMU HELPS (assistance supported by donors).

27 April 2020 (Monday) - Singapore Management University (SMU) and Tradeteq will be embarking on a project “Exploring the Advantages of a Quantum System for Machine Learning applied to Credit Scoring”, which aims to develop quantum computing-based credit scoring methods for companies. This project is supported by the Monetary Authority of Singapore under the Financial Sector Technology & Innovation (FSTI) – Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics (AIDA) Grant Scheme.

Singapore, 14 April 2020 (Tuesday) – For every dollar invested in WE CARE Community Services (WE CARE), $9.50 of economic benefit is returned to the community in Singapore. For beneficiaries, this value translates into savings on money spent on drugs and alcohol, medical treatment as well as an improvement in earnings. For the authorities, there are reduced costs on housing for inmates, law enforcement and legal expenses. For society as a whole, there is a reduction in victimisation costs.

Confirmation regarding this type of spread has emerged over the last days but a group of researchers at the National University of Singapore (NUS) and the Singapore Management University (SMU) foresaw this three weeks ago and teamed up to create a tool that enables administrators to estimate people counts in different buildings on campuses.

Singapore, 25 March 2020 (Wednesday) – The Institute of Service Excellence (ISE) at the Singapore Management University (SMU) (卓越服务研究院) today released the 2019 full-year results for the Customer Satisfaction Index of Singapore (CSISG), alongside the announcement of results for the Finance & Insurance and Healthcare sectors for the 4th quarter (Q4) of 2019.

The 2019 national score rose to 74.3 points (on a 0 to 100 scale). This was a 1.2% improvement over the 2018 score of 73.5 points, marking a record high in the CSISG study’s 13-year history.

Singapore, 11 March 2020 (Wednesday) – Mr Jeff Tung, an alumnus of Singapore Management University (SMU), and the founder and Chairman of Sheng Ye Capital, has made an endowed contribution of S$1 million to enhance the P.A.K.[1] Entrepreneurship Fund which he and SMU alumnus Mr Benjamin Twoon had jointly established at SMU in 2015. Jeff graduated from SMU Lee Kong Chian School of Business (LKCSB) in 2013 and founded Sheng Ye Capital in 2014.

Singapore, 11 March 2020 (Wednesday) – The Singapore Management University (SMU) has been awarded a major grant of S$15 million from the National Research Foundation Singapore (NRF) to helm a five-year Research Programme in Computational Law.  The University will invest multi-disciplinary efforts towards the research - SMU School of Law will take the lead to undertake focused efforts on the Programme later this year, in collaboration with the SMU School of Information Systems.

SINGAPORE, 28 February 2020 (Friday) - Singapore Management University (SMU) and Duke-NUS Medical School (Duke-NUS) are offering a new SMU-Duke-NUS Medicine Pathway for outstanding students across the six schools at SMU who plan to pursue a career in medicine. The pathway aims to nurture future clinicians who can help shape the healthcare ecosystem with their perspectives and knowledge of law, social sciences, business or computing.
