Six teams have been selected to compete in the Finals of the Lee Kuan Yew Global Business Plan Competition 2003/2004 to compete for a combined prize money of close to US$70,000. The competition, organized by the Singapore Management University (SMU), attracted submissions from over 500 teams from 117 universities spanning 30 countries this year.

Singapore Management University Receives Record Number of Applications for Places in its Four Undergraduate Schools

Singapore Management University (SMU) has received an overwhelming response to its admissions exercise this year, with available openings 9 times oversubscribed. Over 7,700 students have applied to study at SMU, representing a year-on-year increase of 33% over the 2003 figure of 5,800. There were 870 openings for SMU’s four schools – Business, Accountancy, Economics & Social Sciences, and Information Systems.

Singapore Management University Appoints Howard Hunter as University’s New President

Singapore Management University (SMU) is pleased to announce the appointment of Prof. Howard O. Hunter, former Provost & Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs at the distinguished Emory University in Atlanta, as SMU’s third president. He will commence office on 1 September 2004, succeeding Prof. Ronald Frank, who will finish his service as president at the end of August 2004.

AmCham establishes its first local scholarship programme at SMU

The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) today presented an education gift of S$100,000 to the Singapore Management University (SMU). The gift will go towards the establishment of the AmCham Scholarship at SMU, marking it as the first major program AmCham has sponsored at a tertiary institution in Singapore.
