In the third of a four-part ST-SMU Education Series on AI in higher education, Raghav Gupta, Head of Education for India and Asia-Pacific at OpenAI, said artificial intelligence should be used to personalise and deepen learning, not bypass it. He emphasised that students must treat AI as a “personal tutor” rather than a shortcut to grades, adding that responsibility ultimately lies with users. He also noted that OpenAI is introducing institutional partnerships and product features designed to preserve the “friction” essential for meaningful learning. The 2026 ST Education Forum, held in partnership with SMU, will take place on 1 April at SMU Yong Pung How School of Law.
