Singapore Management University (SMU) has expanded its academic footprint in Vietnam through new Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) and Direct Admission agreements with four distinguished institutions:
- Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST)
- Thuongmai University (TMU) in Hanoi
- Vietnam-UK Institute for Research and Training (VNUK) under the University of Da Nang
- Eastern International University (EIU) in Ho Chi Minh City
Held over 24 to 26 November 2025, the signings of these agreements reinforce SMU’s long-term strategy in Vietnam, a key pillar of its ASEAN engagement. The agreements will open doors to postgraduate programs, student mobility, joint research projects, and industry-linked collaborations. They also extend the work of SMU’s Overseas Centre in Ho Chi Minh City (SMU Vietnam), which has been building networks with academia, government and industry to anchor SMU’s presence in one of ASEAN’s fastest-growing markets.
Shared Vision for Excellence
These partnerships reflect a common ambition to strengthen interdisciplinary learning and develop Vietnam’s next generation of leaders for the wider region. They also advance SMU’s commitment to connecting Singapore’s strengths in management, digital transformation and applied research with emerging opportunities across Vietnam.
The partnerships include:
Hanoi University of Science and Technology (HUST)
As Vietnam’s premier technical university, HUST brings deep expertise in engineering and technology. The SMU-HUST partnership will focus on cutting-edge research and programs that blend technology with management education, equipping students for leadership in the digital economy, and supports Vietnam’s rapid move towards a digital and innovation-driven economy.
Thuongmai University (TMU)
TMU, a leading institution in business and economics, will collaborate with SMU on student mobility and postgraduate programs in trade, finance, and sustainable development, fostering knowledge exchange between Singapore and Vietnam.
Vietnam-UK Institute for Research and Training (VNUK)
Located in Da Nang, VNUK emphasizes internationalization and interdisciplinary learning. The agreement with SMU will broaden innovative pedagogy, guest lectures and leadership programmes, deepening SMU’s reach into central Vietnam.
Eastern International University (EIU)
EIU’s applied learning approach provides a strong platform for executive education, industry projects and experiential learning with SMU. The partnership aligns with Vietnam’s shift towards industry-ready, globally oriented graduates.
Driving Impact Beyond the MOUs
The ceremonies were complemented by academic dialogues, including SMU’s signature talk on “The Future of Work” delivered by Dr Themin Suwardy, Associate Provost (PGP Education); Associate Professor of Accounting (Practice). These sessions offered valuable insights into global trends and strategies for success in an evolving workforce.

SMU’s sustained commitment to Vietnam is anchored by SMU Vietnam and its growing network of government, corporate and academic partners. Together, these partnerships strengthen SMU’s position as a catalyst for ASEAN knowledge exchange and a bridge between Singapore and Vietnam’s fast-rising innovation ecosystem, even as it accelerates its regional initiatives.
