A new nationwide survey led by SMU revealed a stark gap between empathy and action on disability inclusion in Singapore. Despite strong support for inclusion, both the general public and persons with disabilities rate Singapore's current employment policies below moderate in effectiveness, with only “minor” improvement expected by 2030. Led by SMU Principal Lecturer of Statistics Rosie Ching, with support from the Singapore Association of the Visually Handicapped and the Singapore Association for the Deaf, the data underscored the fact that inclusion would remain more rhetoric than reality without accessible workplaces, clearer support and practical tools for employers.
