SMU is marking its 25th anniversary with an Arts Festival, featuring its first-ever original musical, MAD The Musical, led by renowned local musician Jimmy Ye, who also serves as Executive Producer and composer. Mr Ye – who is also Director of SMU’s Office of Student Life – has been leading the planning of anniversary festivities since early 2025. Inspired to spotlight student life, he conceptualised MAD, a musical performed by current students, alumni, and faculty. Despite time constraints and generational differences, Mr Ye embraced the collaborative process, valuing students’ ideas and perspectives to create a production that reflects their voices and experiences.
