In this third of a four-part series, SMU Provost Professor Timothy Clark shared that SMU will do away with personal statements for undergraduate admissions in 2024 because of ChatGPT, and decided to switch to asking applicants to respond to a series of short questions instead. He also explained why SMU is not considering using artificial intelligence (AI) to screen students for admissions, although he agreed that well-developed AI tools can make the admissions process more efficient. He also shared his views on the opportunities and threats AI pose to higher education institutions.
