At the Centre for Research on Successful Ageing (ROSA) Symposium held at SMU on 12 October 2023, ROSA unveiled findings of a new study titled “Singapore’s Three Generational Packages”. The study showed that while retirement is a major worry for most Singaporeans, only 34 per cent rate their retirement preparedness as good, while another 27 per cent do not have a retirement plan. ROSA’s study included policy recommendations to combat isolation and transform the built environment to support social inclusivity. Health Minister Ong Ye Kung, who delivered a keynote address at the Symposium, highlighted that much work lies ahead for Singapore if it is to become a Blue Zone 3.0, where a healthier lifestyle is the new norm. SMU Professor of Sociology (Practice) and ROSA Director Paulin Straughan commented on why and how the culture of work needs to change as Singapore evolves into a super-aged society.
