In a commentary, SMU Associate Professor of Law Eugene Tan discussed the roles, powers and limits of the elected presidency, and how it is vital for Singaporeans to have a good and accurate understanding in order to make an informed choice. He noted the competing and conflicting visions of the presidency, and highlighted that the president’s custodial powers are reactionary ones and that the presidency is not a site of political power.
